Fixing Random Playback Issues on Android

Learn how to prevent your Android phone from stopping podcast playback when the screen is locked or app is in background

Updated over 2 weeks ago

TL;DR: If your podcast playback stops randomly, set Snipd's battery usage to "Unrestricted" in your Android settings to fix the issue.

While this issue affects only a small number of Android users, it can be frustrating when it occurs. The good news is that these random playback interruptions are easy to fix by adjusting your device's battery optimization settings.

Why This Happens

Android's battery optimization feature helps extend your device's battery life by restricting background apps. In rare cases, this can interfere with podcast playback when your screen is locked or when Snipd is running in the background.

How to Fix It

  1. Open your Android device's Settings

  2. Navigate to Apps or Application Manager

  3. Find and tap on Snipd

  4. Select Battery

  5. Choose "Unrestricted" or "Unrestricted battery usage"

Note for Android 14 users: To find the "Unrestricted" option, tap on the "Allow background usage" text in App battery usage. Simply enabling the toggle is not sufficient.
